A trolley tour in Savannah, GA
Savannah

Savannah's enduring charm is a direct result of the city's respect for its past. Nowhere is this more evident that in the many small neighborhoods, which often seem more like pictures from a storybook than the corners of a 21st century city. With no skyscrapers, few modern-looking structures, and the shopping malls placed mercifully, inconveniently on the periphery of town, this burg of 150,000 souls keeps the soul of the Old South alive for residents and guests alike.

Historic District

This two-and-half square mile district serves as the functional heart of Savannah, and the historic status is not self-decreed. Bordered by the Savannah River to the north, Montgomery Street to the west, Price Street to the east, and Forsythe Park to the south, this area represents one of the largest National Historic Landmarks in the nation. Here is where you'll find the picturesque civic squares—23 of them—that make Savannah famous as well as street after tree-lined street of ancient churches, monuments and museums, including the Telfair, which now houses the famous “Bird Girl” statue featured on the cover... more

Three of us rented a house in the historic district of this beautiful city thru SavannahGetaways.com. It was just what we wanted. We were able to walk or taxi to every location. The 21 squares are lovely as were the house tours. I"d skip the bar crawl , but not the Savannah Theatre performance. ... More

The Bird Girl was located in the Bonaventure Cemetery until the photo was taken and they feared someone might damage or steal her so the moved her to the Telfair museum. Which is a real shame as far as I'm concerned The Bird girl belongs in the cemetery where she was placed. She in not in a glass caseyou can touch her. You cannot take any pictures in the Telfair museum. The Bird girl was placed in the Trosdal section in the Bonaventure cemetery. When you enter the cemetery go as far left as you... More
The Bird Girl was located in the Bonaventure Cemetery until the photo was taken and they feared someone might damage or steal her so the moved her to the Telfair museum. When you enter the cemetery go as far left as you can and go all the way to the endwhen you get to the end take a right(you can only go right) go about 500' and the Trosdal section is on the right. There are azaleas planted all around the area so you will have to look real closely. The bird Girl was at the rear center of the family plot. You will see a 5' cleared section in the rear. The cemetery is open to the public M-F I believe 9AM-5PM. They encourage you to visit the cemetery and walk around and take pictures because they accept donations. Anybody we asked told us of the exact location of the Bird Girl. It was no secret with the locals.
