An urban scene in Austin, TX
Austin

Austin is a place where business professionals, artists, musicians, filmmakers and students all bring their passions to life. Even with its population growing rapidly, this city continues to welcome new residents with open arms. Over the past few years, several national magazines have touted Austin as a top place to live.

Sixth Street

To experience "The Live Music Capital" of the world, Sixth Street is a good place to start. Often closed to vehicle traffic on the weekends, this street is lined with dance clubs, live music venues, eateries and street musicians, plus several tattoo and piercing shops. Visitors can have their tarot cards read by a gypsy on a street corner, or buy handmade jewelry from artists and hippies. Grab a slice of pizza at Roppolo's when the munchies take over; or, if a Cajun meal is what you're after, Roux & Parish serves up Louisiana cooking and great mixed drinks. Music fills the air in this area every night of the week, and visitors can hear everything from country to hip-hop, blues to noise-pop.

I have lived all over the world, Munich, Rome, Boston, Philly, Jacksonville, and numerous other large and small cities, and I can tell you without hesitation that austin,Tx is the worse. The town is small minded and shows it limitations. There is no east/west freeway, school taxes are stiffling, people are rude and stuck up and frankly I am sick of hearing about ut. This city will never be anything more than the ugly step child of Houston and Dallas. But that is what most austinites want, au... More

The town is small minded and shows it limitations. There is no east/west freeway, school taxes are stiffling, people are rude and stuck up and frankly I am sick of hearing about ut. This city will never be anything more than the ugly step child of Houston and Dallas. But that is what most austinites want, austin to be out of the mainstream. Hell they ******** weird reputation to be its slogan and that is what you get a bunch of weird people, policies and behavior. Luckly, I am moving and will do my best to inform everyone that I meet to never move or visit this sh*t hole town. It is funny, when I told people that I was moving to austin 2.5 years ago, people told me I would love it. But now I know why they told that, becuase they just visited and left. They hung around 6th street and got drunk listen to bad bands. They did not live here, because if they did they would have warned me. Well it is my time to warn them and the rest of the world. Do NOT move to austin, you will HATE IT!

TXWe wanted to visit because we heard that Austin was up and coming. However the nightlife was as great as we expected nor was the scenery. Granted the people were nice enough and Austin was huge but we felt like anyplace where the people still refer to African Americans and Hispanic people as "black and brown" is a little out of touch. It was an EXTREMELY uncomfortable experience to get stared at when you walk into a restaurant and I will NEVER return to Austin TX as long as I live. W... More

We also visited San Antonio and it was much better.

This is the most fun city I have ever been to. I loved it so much I moved here from Southern California. The AOL reviewer who can hardly wait to leave will not be missed. If traffic is bad here she is one of the reasons. Humm I am complaining about a problem with the city and I am the problem. Smart... More
