We went to bed around midnight but woke up not long afterwards feeling itchy. We ignored it at first, thinking it was due to a new place and the small beds (twins). It was not until we turned on the lights and saw swollen red bumps all over our arms that we knew it was something else. We ended up catching 5 of these critters, including 2 huge ones that squirted blood when they were killed. We went to the front desk but were told they couldnât help up until 8am in the morning because the manager wasnât in and they had no new rooms they could move us to. We ended up sitting on the floor (didnât dare go near the bed anymore) all through the morning. Will update later with how management deals with this.
The manager offered us a full refund for the night after we found the bedbugs. It's nice, but we still ended up staying the entire night because they didn't give us another room and the manager didn't come in until 8am in the morning. According to the manager, bedbugs are not that uncommon in Vancouver, even in 5 star hotels. Well, it's our first time ever at any hotel and we won't be coming back. Just hope this doesn't happen to anyone else--the bites really hurt.
