I spent 4 days in wonderful Venice Italy wtih my husband and children. I researched my own hotel and touring experiences. We stayed at the Hotel Marconi which is right AT the Rialto Bridge. I was in one of the very few balcony rooms overlooking the canal. Sitting out on my balcony at night watching the moon come up over the canal and listening as the gondoliers serenaded their passengers on their gondolas was one of those unforgettable moments. I spent 4 days in wonderful Venice Italy wtih my husband and children. I researched my own hotel and touring experiences. We stayed at the Hotel Marconi which is right AT the Rialto Bridge. I recommend the Hotel Marconi for it's quaint atmosphere it's location and it's fun and friendly staff that overexceeded my expectations. The gondola rides (i took 2) were so much fun. I was there in August and contrary to what I've heard it did NOT stink and I didn't get ANY mosquito bites. The museums were wonderful. There is so much history in venice. the street signs were easy to read and i didn't have trouble finding my way around anywhere. i love venice and can't wait to go back!

9.Not what its cracked up to be

I've been to Venice two times. Side trips while in Milan on business. I would not spend my money to go there. It smeel of mildew Prices are outrageous for just about anything including food. I just had cappuchino and gelato and that was expensive. . Gondoliers are mainly egotistcal guys who think they're god's gift to women. Way overpriced. I ate all meals in a small trattoria about 15km from Venice. Excellent food good wine good grappa very friendly owner. Made you feel at home. Venice does ha... More

Am I the only one who really disliked Venice? It's dirty food is only fair (gelato was great though) sooooooo over-priced and the vendors are out to make a killing. We went for our 25th Anniversary--never again. You would do better to go to Malta or the Amalfi Coast--now that's beautiful--foods great and very romantic!!... More
