1.A fantastic Island
My wife and I just returned the first week of April from Vieques. We traveled throughout the Island, except for couple of the numerous beautiful beaches, being the roads were closed due to construction. The beaches were beautiful and some of the best we've been to in the Caribbean and at times we had complete beaches to ourselves. The food was the surprise. The beaches were beautiful and some of the best we've been to in the Caribbean and at times we had complete beaches to ourselves. The food was the surprise. Every dinner was a new pleasant surprise and some of the best foods ever expereinced. We saw no trash as earlier mentioned to other than what you would normally see. We experienced no crime, however, if anything is a deterrent, crime will be the cause. After reading some of the reviews, I wondered if we were on the same Isle of Vieques. We can't wait to return, but keep this place a secret. Once tourism finds it, Vieques will lose its quaintness.

2.The Ultimate Getaway
I was once stationed at Naval Station Roosevelt Roads, and I can say from experience, Isla Vieques is like the Virgin Islands without the crowds. The people of of Vieques were some of the most friendly people I've ever met in my travels, and were more than willing to share with me the history and scenery of the island. If you want to see a great sight, watch the leatherback sea turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. Their nesting grounds are protected by the Commonwealth and U.S. governments.... More

Not a bad place to go for a honeymoon either with the phosphorescent bays and all.

3.The last bastion of the true carribbean.
I read a NYtime sreview with this headline almost 7 years ago and decided to visit with my husband and two young children. We fell in love with the island, the people, and its herds of wild horses, not to mention bioluminescent bay. We have been back many times and bught property there a few years ago when the Navy left. We do alot of traveling but have always felt that Vieques is a very special place. A previous writer mentioned some garbage. Yes, to be honest, like many american areas there ... More

We do alot of traveling but have always felt that Vieques is a very special place. A previous writer mentioned some garbage. Yes, to be honest, like many american areas there is some garbage, although the public beach area are pristine, deserted and beautiful even in high season. I am sure there is crime on the island, although we honestly have never encountered any of any k ind. It truly is the last bastion of the true carribbean, not a place those who love it want to share. sinpralthpoisgsmjerecinsaid oter

4.Vieques - Unpretentious Paradise
If you like being the only person on the most spectacular and pristine beaches ever, swimming and snorkeling off the beach, kayak trips through the Mangroves, along the coast, the bio luminescent bay, land and sea life, wild horses, great restaurants ( local and exotic food for $20 pp to $100 if you try hard), and great bars for all ages and people who know how to relax , go to Vieques. If your going to make a fashion statement, play golf or hang by the pool or to achieve some kind of travel prowess stay away Vieques is not for you. This is a place which is what it is, do almost nothing but party, relax on the beach hike, bike and love it. Sure there is some petty theft but where can you go where their isn't. It only takes some common sense to avoid it. Comment about settling fights absolutely rascist and can under stand and appreciate that person not coming back. Wife and I have gone for 3 straight years and are in love with the place. Rent a house with a great view sunsets etc...Fish and wildlife patrols and provide friendly advice. If you like resorts a big W is coming but they are really all the same. Stay on the main island at the Conquistador, eat stock tourist food and never leave the place and see nothing while putting up with some pretentious jackass or someones unruly kids. Nothing pretentious about island. We love meeting people from throughout the states (Miinnesota, Missouri, Illinois and Michigan this year as well) and the locals have all been friendly. We even enjoyed a visit to the Sat night cock fights where we were welcome. Pack a few pair of shorts some swimwear sandals water shoes a dozen t-shirts and you are done. Kayaking a great experience and you can discover the place on your own. I laugh at the bomb comments. Those areas aren't open to the public and you'll never give it a thought. It has its problems, garbage being one of them in isolated spots, but if you can't have a good time on Vieques something is wrong with you.
