Vilnius is a great city for many different kinds of travelers. We have daughters in their 20s. THey found the shopping and the night clubbing to be fabulous. I am a history buff who loves to walk. I found the fairly large old town to be ultimately walkable and lots of fun to get "lost in". Vilnius is a great city for many different kinds of travelers. We have daughters in their 20s. THey found the shopping and the night clubbing to be fabulous. I am a history buff who loves to walk. I found the fairly large old town to be ultimately walkable and lots of fun to get "lost in". Being an old city dating back to the 11th century and earlier its narrow streets are filled with good examples of bizantine gothic renaisance and baroque architecture. It has a very interesting history and many museums to visit. The old town is dotted with sidewalk cafes shops interesting courtyards bridges lovely churches and much more. We found the people there to be very friendly and hospitable.
The shopping is great. Amber can be purchased at sidewalk stalls at a fraction of the cost you would pay for it in the US. We stayed for a week and had a wonderful time. We are planing to go back.
