You absolutely took Virginia Beach way too seriously...
You're coming to VB as a tourist, FYI the objective is to make money off of you. Those people who work at the Vacation Market mess around with tourists/locals everyday, liten up! As far as Laverns tavern, if you were so annoyed by the 10-15 min. wait(god forbidd) and the broken toilets than you should have just left from the begging. Virginia Beach has a very REAL and laid back atmosphere to ************* like you should have vacationed ... More

Virginia Beach has a very REAL and laid back atmosphere to ************* like you should have vacationed in St. Maartin instead. And yes our beaches are veryy beautiful, but if you wonder the locals aren't friendly.... it's because tourists SWARM our beaches, take our parking spots every summer and act like stuck up fools.

Sincerely,

A proud resident of VB for 13 years

However I was on vacation and not interested in any timesharing at other resorts and was constanlty asked if I was interested. Very annoying. Atlantic Ave at night walking by bars and clubs not good yuck. The people who work at vacation market at the corner of 25th street and Atlantic Ave were very rude especially when they would ask where are you from? Well because of traffic and music on the street it was hard to hear what the employees of vacation market were saying but when asked where are you from? and you choose not answer and the comment you recieve from a woman employee at Vacation Market is you are from no where is extremely rude ! I choose not answer this person because it was hard to hear what she was saying but I heard her comment. The best resturant is Lynnhaven seafood resturant. It had delicious food and great service. One of the worst places was Lavernes on 6th and board walk . Food was terrible. We were told the wait for an inside table was 10-15 minutes it was not crowded could not understand the wait and all of the bathrooms in the resturant were not working had to use bathroom adjacent to resturant in hotel. While eatting my meal I had to listen to a manager yelling at a waitress about a miscommunication with a customer. It has beautiful beach and lots of things to do but the locals are rude. I don't know if I would go back.

I lived in Virginia Beach for 11 years before unfortunately moving to Augusta County due to a job transfer. I loved every year! I feel VB is the best city in all of the US. It has so much to offer. A beach a town-center filled with stores and great restaurants several huge malls (Lynnhaven Mall is the personal favorite) and nicest suburbs. Some places I admit are a little ehh like the Pembroke Area. It might be the worst of VB but even there there's a mall great school and several shopping centers. VB is easily an amazing city. Oh and I do remember VB was ranked #1 in Virginia as the best place to raise your kids. Oh and for people who say there are tons of homeless people. Have you even seen the headlines??? Homeless people are everywhere! Especially now... Anyways come to VB! You won't regret it!!!! Oh I recommend staying at the Virginia Beach Resort Hotel on Shore Drive.

4.The Truth About Virginia Beach

I have lived in Virginia Beach for 9 years and I absolutely love it here. When people visit VB however they often come with lofty and unreasonable expectations. People expect us to look like the Bahamas but cost next to nothing.
Another thing people don't realize when they come to VB is that people LIVE HERE YEAR ROUND! The complain constantly about the lack of parking up at the North End. THAT AREA IS RESIDENTIAL!

The first thing you have to understand is that Virginia Beach is a RESORT TOWN. Hotels and food are (obviously) going to cost a bit more. However compared to other places i find VB very reasonable considering what you get.
Virginia Beach is extremely diverse. The Strip (as the locals call it) or the Main Oceanfront with boardwalk can have thousands of people on it per day. However if you want a more private and quiet beach experience I would recomend Chicks Beach. The sand here is extrememly white and water is much clearer. This is typically known as a 'tourist free beach' because not many people who visit know about it. This is the only beach my friends and I visit. Virginia Beach is VERY family friendly but again use common sense. There are nightclubs and bars on the Resort Strip so if you have young children try to be in by 11. In my 9 years at Virginia Beach I have maybe seen 6 homeless people. They are less common down by the oceanfront because the police make them leave. And if you do see a homeless person who is making you uncomfortable find an officer. Problem solved!
In reading the reviews I became very disgusted with the rude reviews. We are not dirty homeless people do not run rampant and for your information I swam with wild dolphins almost every time i went to the beach last year. All you need is a pair of fins and a mask! So stop saying we have no wildlife at our beaches! JUST BECAUSE YOU DONT FIND/SEE IT DOESNT MEAN IT'S NOT THERE!
Don't believe everything you read. Come see for yourself :)

We stayed at Great Wolfe Lodge in Williamsburg and day tripped to Va Beach. We had a blast with our two toddlers. We found parking real close to beach somewhere around 34th Street. Plenty of good food. We spent at most a little over a hundred dollars at dinner one night. The playground on the beach was perfect. Our 3 year old thinks the ocean is too loud.... More
