I was born and raised in Waianae and I too am a Ha'ole (white). It's like any other place on earth~ respect its beauty and respect its people and they in turn will respect you. However don't tempt this by leaving your rental car chock full of camera equipment when you park at the beach.... But DO know that the west side of the island has some of the most beautiful and sandy beaches in all of Oahu. If for no other reason visit Waianae for some sun and sand!... More

West side of Oahu is where the real Hawaiians live. Homeless people have been rooted out of their campgrounds on the beach but the average income is still well below the rest of the island. Try not to stay past dusk unless you are local or know someone who will vouch for you. Best advice-if you aren't sure don't go anywhere pasy Ko'olina. ... More

Haved lived in Waianae 45 Yrs I am Haole and have only met the best of the Island in Waianae. Have a multi ethnic family of five & 10 grand. You should be so lucky to see the real Hawaii. Beats downtown mainland America.... More
