Metro not cheap???

Metro is not "cheap" by public transportation standards, and certainly not if you don't use it right! There's "cheap" and there's cheap. Metro is (arguably) the finest subway system in North America -- for good reason. It's in our national capital! It needs to have cathedral-esque stations and spotless everything. It's a Lexus in a Yugo world. But there are ways to drive a Lexus on a Yugo budget! Metro charges time- and distance-sensitive fares. If you ride 40 miles, you're going to pay more t ... DC compared to other Major Cities

I have been to many major American cities including New York, Philly, Baltimore, Chicago, Orlando, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Comparitively D.C. is definetly the top city for free Museums as any musuem that is part of the Smithsonian does not charge any fee. I cannot believe the author(s) of the "free things to do" article noted the Naval Museum and Archives are free, but failed to note that the "real" museums in DC are free!!! Some people. The Smithsonian museums near The Mall (over a dozen) have been, are, and will be FREE to visit (as Mr. Smithson intended). The worlds of Air & Space, History, Nature, and Science & Technology lay open before thee... and within a few minutes' walk of various Metro stations are what is technically known as a "boatl ... I have lived in the D.C. suburbs all of my life, and it wasn't until recently that i truely appreciated my city. Of course there are downsides to the District, such as; bad drivers (especially taxis, i have been to alot of cities in my life, and i have NEVER seen a cabbie drive so slow and so stupidly), the metro is way over priced (although taxes are cheaper than other cities so its really only the tourists who are getting screwed), and there aren't any cool skyscrapers (buildings can't be tall ... DC

I have lived outside DC in Northern Virginia for 8 years now and I still love this place. There is so much to do in and around DC it would take years to see it all. Minus the crime in the southern part of DC and neighboring PG County MD, DC is great....oh wait, yeah its expensive where ever you go in Metro DC so be prepared. However, you won't find a better standard of living anywhere. DC and esp. Northern Virginia put a lot of detail in living with its refined developments and parks You m ...
