DC compared to other Major Cities
I have been to many major American cities including New York, Philly, Baltimore, Chicago, Orlando, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Comparitively D.C. is definetly the top city for free Museums as any musuem that is part of the Smithsonian does not charge any fee. However it also has the most confusing metro system I have ever ridden-cost aside understanding all the lines and having to take multiple lines to a destination can get confusing. Plus side is that it goes pretty far outside the city itself so you can stay at a cheaper hotel say 25mi. away and still take the metro in (for example we stayed in Bethesda, MD and then took the metro in). If you do not care to use the metro though D.C. is fairly easy to get around by car COMPARED to most other major cities. If you can find some good parking you may be able to just walk to most attractions. If you tire of the typical museum seen I suggest the FBI headquarters tour--I have been to DC many times and this is hands down the most interesting thing for ALL ages. Get there as early as possible because they get a line and can only take so many people at once and only have few tours per day. Make sure you listen very carefully to any intstructions the tour guides give you one big rule is no drinks at all--someone thought they could bring in a closed bottle of soda and they were kicked out so just make sure you follow the rules to a tee and it is a lot of fun.
