In the AOL least visited national parks description it talks about the Sierra National Forest then the link takes you to the Yosemite National Park. The National Forests are not National Parks and are not part of the National Parks which are managed by the National Park Service an agency of the Dept of Interior. We absolutely love Yosemite. It is our favorite of the many parks we've visited. The scenary is striking and inspiring. You can do as little or as much as you want in the park - sit on a bench and watch the squirrels run in the shops to steal food (Yes they do it) or a strenuous hike or climb. It's sad that camps have to be closed but parks just don't have the funds that they used to and are very seriously hurting. It takes a lot of money to maintain those buildings roads trails campgrounds cabins animal control etc. Any time you visit a park drop a couple of extra bucks (or more if you have it) into a donation box. Every $ helps. We could all do more for a park we are able to enter for anywhere from free to $20.00.

The best kept secret to Yosemite is indeed Wawona and it's wonderful hidden places.I have stayed at the Redwoods in Yosemite going as far back as 1970.(www.redwoodsinyosemite.com) They provide afforable privately owned cabins located in a serene wooded area near the South Fork of the Merced River. Once there you never have to keep getting into your wallet except for necessary food staples you overlooked. There are fine day trails into the back country and upper Chilnualna Falls. Near the Wawona Hotel 5 miles to the majestic Redwoods tree grove and 21 miles to the Valley floor all easy driving with spectacular views on the way. Once you discover Wawona you will keep coming back as I have for 38 years.

I have been camping in Yosemite every year for 22 years this year. There are some years in which I have made it for all 4 seasons even! Yosemite is my place to go and relax find peace and be with family. You can do as much or as little as you want. There is nothing like the smell of bacon frying in the mornings with the ravens overhead cawing... or the sound of horseshoes hitting the posts at the other end. There is nothing like the smell of bacon frying in the mornings with the ravens overhead cawing... or the sound of horseshoes hitting the posts at the other end. You can go and sit by the river especially in Happy Isles and just listen to the water gurgling over the rocks. If you are up for some big hikes you can do things as hard or as easy as you want! Take the bus up to Glacier Point and hike back down to the valley via the Panaroma or Pohono trail. I did the Pohono trail last year and it was so beautiful! This year the most strenous thing I'll probably do is the little ten minute walk up to the base of lower Yosemite Falls. This is only because I'll be taking my newborn son who will only be about a month old on his first trip to Yosmite. We will go hang out by Stoneman bridge relax in our campsite take walks around Happy Isles and ride on the bus. The bus is a free bus ride available to anyone who is visiting. Talk it up with the drivers and they are more than happy to point you in the right direction! I've stayed in the campgrounds as well as Camp Curry and for part of my honeymoon... in the Awahanee. I've done a little of everything in the valley and I will continue to do it over and over and over again. We plan to keep this a family vacation every year and help raise our kids there over time.

Yosemite has always been a family favorite. Lately the Park has closed many of the camp sites and has raised the prices of the sites that remain. It is loosing its family appeal because of this. They are even trying to close another camping area. Open the camp sites again and bring back that old spirit of Yosemite.... More
