Yosemite National Park is a natural treasure, and a must for sightseeing. About 95% of Yosemite's 1169 square miles is considered wilderness. The 5% of Yosemite National Park that takes in the majority of tourists is Yosemite Valley. Inside the Valley is Yosemite Village, an area that hosts most Yosemite National Park hotels and activities. This is where you will find the Yosemite Museum, and the Park's shopping community.
Yosemite means "among them are killers," referring to the indigenous Ahwahnee Indians who lived in the Yosemite National Park area. Of course, now there are no killers to worry about in Yosemite National Park. If you're interested in finding out more about the Ahwahnee Indians, visit the Indian Village inside the Yosemite Valley.
The Ahwahnee Hotel is one of the oldest Yosemite National Park hotels. It was built in 1927 and is a rustic blend of Native American, Middle Eastern, and Art Deco decor. The Redwoods in Yosemite Vacation Homes gives you the option to rent cabins or bungalows for a more private, intimate atmosphere. The Housekeeping Camp is for everyone interested in "roughing it." There's no housekeeping, although you can rent bed sheets, blankets and pillows.
The Curry Village offers a mixture of motel rooms, cabins, and tents. It's located on the Merced River. If you'd prefer to spend your days in Victorian luxury, consider the Wawona Hotel.
You can decide on a guided tour, or go your own way. The Park also provides free trolleys throughout the locations in the Valley, as an easy alternative to walking. Go to Yosemite National Park in any season. There's always something fun thing to do, snow or sunshine.
