This is an old favorite that attracts regulars from all over the city. This might be as close as you'll get to a neighborhood bar in Cairo, and it's always packed with middle-aged Egyptians, loud expats and contemplative travelers, all caressing beers in its dimly lit confines. Sit comfortably in the two-room restaurant or pick between the low furniture and uncomfy stools in the bar. There's rarely an empty table, so join a group and make some friends - many couples have actually met here. The staff are competent but aloof. For a pub, the fare's not bad at all. Try the mezze menu for creamy baba ghanough, tehina and hummus. Pasta and steaks are offered, and, on the whole, are very well-prepared. Also worth a mention is the Hungarian goulash and there's a fully-stocked bar.
