Purple Turtle (The), Cape Town

The Turtle, as it is commonly known, is one of the most famous live music venues in town. It has probably hosted most of the decent bands in the country and some of South Africa's most popular bands have been discovered here. The clientèle lean towards the grunge-goth, so pull out your leathers and prepare yourself for some metal when bands aren't playing. If you're exhausted from walking around on Greenmarket Square, drop in for a drink, as the venue is also open during the day. And if you stay there long enough, you might even gather enough guts to get a tattoo upstairs. It is open from 11 am, Monday to Saturday.
