Overview

'Egoli' is the name given to Johannesburg, and means ‘City of Gold'. The mining of gold has long been associated with South Africa, and with the Johannesburg area especially. Explosives have been used throughout the history of mining to blast away rock to get to the deeper parts of the earth where the valuable precious metals are found. A guided tour through this museum shows the birth of dynamite and all the technological and scientific advancements that surround this mining necessity.
