Carlton Cinema, Johannesburg

If you're feeling brave in the big city, go and see a movie at the Carlton Centre. This skyscraper used to be in "fashionable" central Johannesburg; but fashion has moved to the Northern suburbs, leaving "For Sale" signs everywhere. However, business goes on. Simply keep your wits about you, and your mental sketchbook handy. The shows at Carlton Cinema are certainly amongst the cheapest in town,  which means you can enjoy more snacks, including, pies. The films are action stuff in most of the five houses, which are especially busy over weekends but security, including parking, is always tight. Look in the newspaper for non-cash ways to book.
