Set on the 1,000 hectare Umhloti Game Reserve, the Jane Goodall Institute Chimpanzee Eden is the premiere destination for those who wish to observe and be educated about the human race's closest biological relative, the chimpanzee. Both a research and rescue facility, this is the only chimpanzee sanctuary in South Africa, giving refuge to these fascinating primates, many of which have been displaced by Africa's growing 'bush-meat' trade. Daily tours are available at 11:00, 12:00, and 14:00, and on-site accomodations are available at the luxurious Chimp Eden Boutique Hotel. To reach the Chimpanzee Eden, take the R40 12 kilometers/7.4 miles south of Nelspruit, then turn left at the sign for 'JGI Chimpanzee Eden' and continue for 4 kilometers/2.5 miles.
