Overview

Designed by Hans ad Roelf Botha, the architect responsible for the design of Stijdom Square, this complex houses five theatres. It is situated at the corner of Church and Prinsloo, and in the past it has presented the best musicals and stage shows in South Africa. If you do not feel like seeing any shows, there is a good quality restaurant and pub at the theatre. Due to severe funding shortages, shows are few and far between these days, watch the press for details.

  I have enjoyed every living moment working for this wonderful opera company. I was in the permanent chorus/ soloist (1984 - 1989) and really think that this is one of the most beautiful and advanced theatres in the world today. So far I have seen many theatres on four different continents, but not one like this. I get very emotional when I think of the great times we had while performing here. The management was fantastic and we had year round opera, "grand opera", that is. We were a great family who loved and care for each other and we respected the opportunities that this amazing opera house presented us. I will sing here anytime as long as I can walk because this is where it all started for me. Thanks to individuals like Neels Hansen, Johan Maree, Mathilda Hornsveldt, Christine, and my fellow singers who encouraged me and made this a heavenly place to work at. I miss you all and please email me at: wvanstaden@aol.com. I think that we can get together again and have many more grand productions here. Why do we have to go somewhere else to find opportunities while we have this theatre right here in SA? I hear many great remarks from international artists who have performed here, they simply loved it and wish to return.
