The site of this WWII American cemetery was established in 1948 and covers 27 acres. It corresponds to an area that was once held by the British army who succeeded in taking Tunis in May 1943. On the green grass stand the aligned white headstones of the 2841 Americans mostly fallen on the battlefields during the military operations leading in Morocco, Algeria and then Tunisia against the Axis powers between 1942 and 1943. On the Tablet of the Missing are inscribed the names of 3724 missing military personnel. -N.L.
