Originally the imperial animal garden of the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, this park has now become a breeding ground for five varieties of deer, including the extremely rare David's deer (Milu). David's deer are indigenous to China. In the late 1800s, they were over hunted and the population wiped out. In 1985, deer living in European zoos were relocated here and the population has begun to re-establish itself. This is a fun day trip from Beijing that families can enjoy together.
