Sawasdee Thai Restaurant, Beijing

Sawasdee offers good Thai food in an area of Beijing where Japanese and Korean restaurants abound, and caters particularly to foreign students from this university quarter. Décor includes fine Thai embroidery and grass hangings, and the waitresses dress in elegant Thai silk. However, the food is the real reason for dining here: fragrant curries and soups, chicken with sweet basil and chili, sour papaya salad and chicken breast wrapped in banana leaf. Sweet rice ball soup is among the desserts. American, Japanese and Chinese beer, and Chinese wine are all on offer, along with enticing Thai soft drinks.
