Heaven's Border Temple, Xiamen

Located within the sprawling grounds of the Xiamen Wanshi Botanical Gardens, the Heaven's Border temple was built by a monk named Yuesong during the early Qing dynasty. Today, the temple is dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy and the Eternal Elder. The temple sits atop a hill near the west entrance to the gardens, and once you make the climb to the top, you'll have a stunning view of the botanical garden grounds with the city of Xiamen in the background. The temple is generally quiet with a few monks and workers tending the gardens. Halfway to the top you can purchase snacks and refreshments from a small store. -Lydia Schrandt
