Kwun Yam Wan Beach, Hong Kong

This dinky beach on the the east coast of Cheung Chau Island's isthmus is one of the prettiest in the Hong Kong area. A curve of golden sand and clear sea shape the beach, edged by vegetation-covered granite outcrops and some substantial homes. Though the beach itself is sheltered, the bay boasts one of the best places in Hong Kong to windsurf, which explains why it houses the famous Cheung Chau Windsurfing Centre. Kwun Yam Wan Beach, also known as Afternoon Beach by the Brits, gets some spectacular sun rises, worth an early morning with the camera to get some postcard-perfect shots. - Jen Wight
