Buddha Bar , Jakarta

In a quite simply breathtaking renovation, the old Dutch Immigration Building in Menteng has been totally restored and is now the home for the Jakarta branch of the world famous Buddha Bar franchise. The décor is sumptuous and exotic, and—as in all Buddha bars—a huge Buddha watches over your every move. As for the cuisine, it follows the original French menu to a large extent, although local tastes are also catered for. Aimed at the upper classes, prices are set accordingly—so don’t come here expecting an easy ride on the pocket! Also make sure to dress up for the occasion; you certainly wouldn’t want to feel out of place. So ask yourself: are you hip enough or not? - Martin Jenkins
