The food is a challenging blend of Dutch and Indonesian, with the latter cuisine lending it most of its flavor. For those who enjoy their spice, try the dendeng balado, a beef dish with a distinctive sweet and sour chili sauce. And for the true colonial dining experience, it's possible to partake in Rijsttafel, a nine-course buffet that mirrors the meals of high-ranking Dutch officials, who enjoyed to eat several small dishes spread buffet-style across the table.
