Tagoto, Kyoto

Founded in 1868 this old-style noodle shop in downtown Kyoto serves traditional soba cuisine at affordable prices. Tagoto is housed in pleasant, old-style surroundings. You should be careful, however, not to be confuse it with the Tagoto Meigetsu-an on Shijo and Tagoto on Shijo Teramachi, which both serve lunch-box style meals, called bento. All the noodles are made from the finest Japanese buckwheat. First there is a choice between thin (Soba) or thick (Udon) and full set meals with noodles. Cold Zaru soba at is a good way to beat the summer heat. Do not forget to slurp.
