Osaka is one of the more Americanized places in Japan—where else can you find a place called Ame-mura (American Village). Or Abeno Soho, for that matter. This Soho is in some ways like its counterpart in New York: artsy and bohemian. Walls and buildings in the area feature the work of local artists, some of it condoned, some of it not. As you would expect, restaurants and small, privately owned shops abound, as do an interesting mix of people, mostly young and friendly and perhaps a little left of the mainstream.
