This museum was established in 1979 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the forerunner of Bunka Women's University. The purpose of the museum is to foster fashion research and knowledge through the use of historical costumes. The collection is broad and the international section includes textiles and apparel from the late 17th to early 18th century France, England and Jordan. One noteworthy piece is a tapestry fragment from the Chancay culture (c.1100-1450 Peru).
