Kokuritsu Gekijo - or the National Theater of Japan - was established in 1966 to breathe new life into Japan's waning dedication to traditional theater. It is the only classical art theater in Japan and it takes the job of preserving kabuki theater extremely seriously; various performances are staged throughout the year.
