Overview
SCAI The Bathhouse is a gallery that was set up in a converted traditional Japanese bathhouse in 1993. It specializes in avant-garde art and is known for its large-scale exhibitions and installations. Despite its old-fashioned outer appearance, the gallery hosts some of Japan's best known contemporary art names, along with many foreign ones, including Anish Kapoor and Dider Courbot. The gallery is bathed in natural light, that pours through the ceiling, creating a special kind of ambience.
