Shinjuku Nakamuraya is a bakery that, oddly, is famous for its Indian-style curry. The recipe honors an old relationship between the Japanese founders of the restaurant and an Indian freedom fighter who they gave refuge to. The freedom fighter gave them a recipe for a traditional Indian curry and it was a hit from the moment it was introduced in 1927. Nakamuraya takes up five floors; the first floor is the bakery, which has Japanese and foreign favorites, and 2F-5F are the restaurant. If you're craving a curry, go for the lunchtime buffet on the 4F.
