Le Banneton, Vientiane

Take a break from Asian cuisine, and slip into this French bakery located in the busy tourist district of Ban Mixay. There is a small terrace outside with tables and chairs under an awning while the inside is decorated with exposed wooden beams, tiled floor, comfortable seating and knickknacks such as an old fashioned television. Fresh breads, cakes and pastries are available with coffees, teas, juices and beer, but breakfast and lunch meals are served, too. Favorites like quiche, tarts, salads and sandwiches are offered. All dishes are beautifully presented and tasty. A second branch of Le Banneton is in Luang Prabang. -AH
