This is yet another one of the many bizarre discoveries and mysteries in Langkawi. Surrounded by paddy fields, the two ancient graves known to the locals as Makam Purba are placed secluded from other graves in that area. These tombstones, whose origins are obscure, are found at Hutan Buloh—Bamboo Forest. Based on the uniqueness and prominence of the tombstones' sculpture, the locals believed they belonged to someone of high standing during ancient times. The National Museum Department, however, has confirmed they are of Achinese origin, from northern Sumatra in Indonesia. Next to the tombstones is the first mosque built in Langkawi.
