Taj Restaurant, Penang

Since 1906 the Taj has served nasi kandar in South Indian style. Well-prepared saffron masalla rice, or briyani rice are other popular items on the menu. Customers can also opt for pasembor or fried rice or noodles. Western and Japanese tourists enjoy the spicy curries. Hot and cold beverages are served. The lower level main dining room features a narrow hallway that allows only a long functional table and two rows of chairs which makes this a somewhat crowded but lively dining choice. Customers may elect for the air-conditioned seating on the upper floor and relax knowing that smoking is prohibitted throughout the restaurant.
