The Actors of Taganka Theatre was founded in April 1993 as a result of a year-long conflict between a director of the Theatre on Taganka, Liubimov, and some of the actors. They were suspicious both of the planned privatisation of the theatre and the fact that their director allegedly put more energy into overseas trips than the theatre itself. The solution was that a large number of actors went off and created their own theatre. Thus 36 actors of the Theatre on Taganka left the theatre which had given some of them work for more than a decade. In spite of numerous initial financial problems, the new theatre had its first premiere (Chekhov's Seagull) in 1994.
