It looks a bit like a huge storage warehouse or a factory, and not because of the huge advertising hoarding on the roof. This is in fact one of the best centres of Russian art in the country. Opened in 1980, this vast exhibition of modern Soviet and Russian art, covers a whopping 10,000 square meters of floor space. The gallery presents more than 300 different exhibits every year and hosts a massive 600,000 visitors. Exhibtions cover a wide variety of styles and forms of art and since 1980, it has hosted a series of Western Artists exhibits. This includes works by artists, such as Salvador Dali, Francis Bacon and Giorgio Morandi. The main exhibition upstairs is a chronological continuation of the Tretiakov Gallery - a superb collection of 20th-century Soviet art, including works by Kandinskii and Malevich.
