Initiated and opened by Russian scientists and members of the Imperial Society of Anthropology and Ethnography in 1872, this museum promoted and still promotes the cause of Russian science. Architect Monigetty constructed the dark-yellow building not for from the Lubianka. The museum's contents include more than 100 collections and more than 150,000 unique pieces of science and technology. Rumours have it that the building also hosted KGB experiments in telepathy, after one such trial apparently yielded some positive results. The exhibitions illustrate the march of technology through various fields such as subjects of geology, metallurgy, chemistry, machine-building, transportation, computers and many others.
