Before 1950, Pushkin Drama Theater was known as the Chamber Theater, but after a decision by the Soviet Art Committee the name was changed and the theatre re-opened with the new name. The theater's stages classical plays by the likes of Sophocles, Molier, Pushkin, Gogol and others. The theater stages up to six premieres a year on its main and smaller stages.
