Every year, during the ninth lunar month, thousands of Taoists make the annual pilgrimage toKusu Island laden with eggs, meat, fruit, and flowers. Their objective: to pay their respects to the temple of Tua Peh Kong, God of Prosperity, in the hope that they will be granted good luck and fortune. Curiously, this deity is unknown in China, but is immensely popular among the overseas Chinese. Note the curving pagoda roofs supported on columns at the Loyang Tua Peh Kong Temple, some of which actually go all the way down to the rocky sea bottom.
