The Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts was first established in 1938 under tremendous pressure from the government as co-educational schools for those above 12 were strictly prohibited. The management persisted and got the required permission however, the 1941 Sino-Japanese War led to closure of the school after one of its teachers was killed. Since then this academy has not looked back, and has proved itself in Singapore's art scene. Design, music, dance and drama are also well-represented so check website for details on admissions and any upcoming events.
