Founded in 1940, Yet Con's recipe for Hainanese Chicken Rice predates Singapore's same signature dish by at least 40 years. Cuts of steamed white chicken with garlic-flavored rice accompanied with clear vegetable broth is the all time favorite, but the steamboat cuisine, roasted pork and stir-fry dishes are just as delectable. Little has changed at this restaurant, which has resisted the urge for a modern makeover; part of the establishment's nostalgic charm is its antiquated architecture and furniture. Look out also for the elderly gentleman at the cashier, who continues to calculate the tabs with an abacus.
