No fish were harmed in the making of this sushi! Zen is a 100% vegetarian restaurant and all the traditional Japanese cuisine served, from the sashimi to the breaded pork cutlet, is made by skilled chefs using mock meat. Try the assorted vegetable tempura, buckwheat soba noodles, or a hearty stew-like dish of mock-seafood, tofu, and veggies simmered together in a clay pot. To drink there’s herbal Japanese tea and fresh fruit juices. In true Japanese-style, service is friendly and efficient. Zen Japanese Restaurant is tucked away on the second floor of a little-known shopping center, so is usually quiet and reservations are not needed. -Tanya Procyshyn
