Overview
Chou was born in 1788 and died in 1846. Her husband passed away not long after they married. Chou stayed in mourning and never remarried. She diligently served her parents-in-law and raised her children on her own. Because of her honor and her exemplary Chinese morality, in 1850 the Ching Dynasty government built an arch to commemorate Chou. The arch was partly destroyed by an earthquake in 1897, but the Taipei City government repaired it. Chou's Honor Arch is beautifully constructed and is an important symbol of Chinese/Taiwanese history.
