Overview
The Cloud Gate Dance Company was established in 1973 by choreographer Lin Hwai-min, who adopted this classical name for the first contemporary dance company in any Chinese speaking community. The groups' repertoire has its roots in Asian myths, folklore, and aesthetics, but the perspective is definately modern- even contemporary. The company is made up of two-dozen dancers whose training includes Tai Chi, meditation, Chinese Opera movement, modem dance, and ballet. Cloud Gate has performed extensively abroad in Europe, Asia, The Americas, and Australia to high acclaim.
