This park is Taipei City's largest downtown park. Despite some controversy during the initial planning, this park has become popular with local residents. It is a great place to stroll, skate and run. In the early 90s, when the decision was made to construct the park, the site contained a housing complex. Local residents and academics protested the development of the park, but intent on developing more green space downtown, the government pushed the project through. In an effort to appease the displaced residents, the government constructed a government housing project on the east of Jian Guo South Road.
