Overview

Chin-shui Tsu Shih Temple was built in 1769, renovated in 1947 and has been under construction ever since. Famous Taiwanese architects have been involved in the building process over the centuries and the paintings and sculptures are all originals. As with most Taoist temples, Tsu Shih comes to life on the 6th day of the 1st month of the lunar year. Large festivals take place here, including the Giant Hog Competition. All the pigs must weigh more than 3,000 pounds, and it is believed that the hair and meat of the winning (that is, heaviest) pig can bring good luck. Admission is free, but donations are welcomed.
