Soi 3/1 Sukhumvit and several narrow passages which connect to Soi 1 and 3, comprise the small area known as Little Arabia or Soi Arab. These bustling streets are home to many hotels, travel agents, and shops, but it is the restaurants that are the real attraction. Try out the Egyptian, Iranian or Lebanese. Many restaurants have an outside area on the street where customers can enjoy a shishah water pipe with friends, while behind lies an air-conditioned room. Alternatively try donar kebabs cut straight from the spit or roti from a street vendor. Many of the men and women in the area are dressed traditionally in djellaba or burqa, and the area makes an interesting cultural change from the bars and nightlife of the rest of Bangkok. -Alyson Hillbourne
