Overview

Akha Ama is a little coffee shop that is doing a lot more than just selling coffee. The Akha are a hill people who inhabit the hilly areas of Northern Thailand and Myanmar (Burma) and Southwestern China. Ama means "mother" in the Akha language. The coffee is 100 percent Arabica, organic, and fair trade. It is part of a project to provide Akha coffee farmers with a sustainable way of life that also protects the environment. The shop also organizes trips out to the plantations so that tourists can learn about the Akha people and the coffee project. Check the website for more details about the trip, but come in any time for a fantastic cup of local coffee. -Scott Johnson
