Aroon Rai, Chiang Mai

This well-established restaurant has a large clientèle of both locals and foreigners. Recently, it has been refurbished and expanded but the decor is kept simple. It occupies a large, open area just a few steps away from Tha Pae Gate and is therefore an ideal place to take refreshment while shopping in the town center. The restaurant's specialties include various kinds of fried insects. A delicious and extensive range of northern Thai specialties is available. Highlights include nam prik ong (a spicy vegetable dip), red pork curry with ginger and the kaeng garee gai, a mild chicken curry.
