Chiang Dao Elephant Training Center , Chiang Mai

The Chiang Dao Elephant Training Center was established in 1969, and was one of the first centers of its kind. Visitors to Chiang Mai should not miss out on the opportunity to watch the elephants with their mahouts (elephant trainers) in the morning, as they teach baby elephants to work and navigate through the forest. A profound sense of respect for these animals can be observed at the center, as a ceremony is held in their honor every April. The elephants only work in the morning, and have the rest of their day free to wander in the forest and the Ping River. Visitors can also make appointments to ride the elephants or take a bamboo raft ride down the river.
